INCREDIBLE INDIA INDEED
My entry to yet another Writing Contest
These are incredible times. And more incredible times are yet to come.
We can always write about inadequacies of government, the disparity on the basis of money and race, the ********* of politicians among other things. You would have read articles, such as these, so many times, which blame everything and tell us about what ‘should’ change. Articles don’t change anything on ground (Tell me if I am wrong).
The most interesting thing is when the Prime Minister himself says that we should do this, we should do that. I wonder who he is talking to. Maybe, he needs to be reminded that he is the one, who is supposed to do this & that.
Now here I have shown an interesting psyche of humans. Whether it is observable only among Indians, I know not. We are the people who would blame the government for anything. The problem with India is not just the representatives, but those whom they are representing. It is incredible how we would fight against the corruption and still bribe for things like traffic rule violations, driver license or be it our very own tatkal scheme. It is almost as if these two functions take place in different halves of brain…
The Politicians:
This clan never ceases to amaze us. They are lions at home, but meek as a mouse when it comes to foreign policies. Whenever we think that it has reached the nadir, it breaks new grounds. What else can be a bigger proof of this than these times, when peaceful protesters like Anna Hazare are thrown in Jail (Too much can be said on this subject, but there are other things as well). Corruption charges against Anti-Corruption Crusader, use of force on peaceful protesters and even claims like involvement of US in this resistance!! As if they don’t have their own problems (read Debt).
Some say that those we elect are as good as we are. But what the bloody choice do we have!! It usually is a choice between lesser of two evils rather than better of two goods…
We, The People:
But we can’t just shirk off our responsibilities by saying that. Why don’t you join the politics? (I have better things to do/ As if the existing ones would let in the competition/ what can I achieve alone? etc.).
But if we are helpless in some cases, in others we turn the conditions that way. What possible explanation can anybody provide for giving/taking bribes? You don’t need to. It is ‘normal’ now. There is a nice demand-supply flow in place. Indestructible. Not without involvement of 1.2 billion people against it anyway…
In this Incredible India, we rob our guests, live in fear of terrorist attacks every day and fight for even the basic amenities.
This is the incredible India, where Politician-Industrialist-Media nexus rule and exploit the equally corrupt (albeit weaker) common man.
It’s our Incredible India alright.
